The Phoenix Garden
Amongst local charities and voluntary sector organisations, Honicknowle Commnet Limited is in the fortunate and unusual position of owning the freehold on the building in which they operate – The Phoenix Centre. However, the building, a former GP surgery is just a little bit larger than a three-bedroomed detached house. It's perfect for small groups and one-to-one sessions, but places a constraint on how large a gathering can be considered when planning an event.
Over the last couple of years, we've considered changing the garden to incorporate a network of footpaths, raised beds and a much extended patio. Two funding bids were submitted to pay for the changes. Neither were successful. That brought us back to considering what we wanted to use the garden for. Certainly the patio needs attention, but otherwise the consensus was that we are quite happy with it as a grassed area, suitable for children to play games on during the summer months.
